Gemology at Gem-imas

Nayer at Gem-imas is a qualified gemologist. She has always collected rocks and after discovering gemology as a study subject, has pursued a career as a diamond specialist. Her studies involved researching the underlying gemology of gemstone formations, whilst learning how to explain the physical and optical properties of a wide range of different gem materials. Here at Gem-imas, this is a key part of our service, as our extensive knowledge and experience, and passion for diamonds will help us guide you towards finding the perfect ring.

What Does A Gemologist Offer?

A gemologist can offer a clear and detailed insight into gemstones. Gemologists specialise in identifying, grading and appraising gemstones. Through the use of microscopes, computerised tools, and various grading instruments, they can easily recognise a gemstone’s variety, as well as being able to identify and evaluate details of a gemstone that are not noticeable or even visible to the human eye.

Gemologists also use special tools to evaluate the colour, size and shape of a gemstone. During this evaluation, they can establish the origins of a gemstone, as well as categorising them after certifying, analysing and describing their specific characteristics. These categories often include a gemstone's specific gravity, refractive index, and crystal structure. Gemologists are also responsible for creating a grading report, which assesses the quality of a gemstone’s features such as colour, clarity and cut.
